Strauss & Partners is a boutique commercial law firm based in Sydney, Australia.


We offer a cost effective alternative to the Corporate/M&A offerings of top-tier and mid-tier firms, based on a better service proposition.


We specialise in corporate transactions, including mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, commercial contracting, foreign investment and general corporate work.

Our founder and principal, Adam Strauss, was a partner of over 10 years in the Corporate/M&A practice of one of Australia’s leading top-tier law firms.

 

We offer top-tier law firm expertise, experience and service, but without the high costs of a traditional law firm.

Strauss & Partners was founded by Adam Strauss.

Adam was a partner in the Corporate/M&A team at Herbert Smith Freehills for over 10 years, and spent his entire legal career of over 20 years at Herbert Smith Freehills.


Having spent his entire career working for a top-tier firm and across the table from other top-tier firms, Adam came to see that the typical service and cost model of top-tier and mid-tier firms has become unsuitable for an increasing share of corporate transactional work from both large and small clients, as clients demand better value for money and access to partner expertise. The high costs of these firms also make them inaccessible to smaller and mid-market enterprises.


The traditional law firm business model relies on using large teams of lawyers and delegation of work to junior or mid-level lawyers, combined with high hourly rates.  This may be suitable for transactional work where large teams of lawyers are required.  However, most transactions do not need large teams. In fact, better client value and service outcomes are achieved with high partner involvement and small teams. This is because the true value offered by top-tier law firms is the access to, and contribution made by, the partners and senior lawyers. 

The legal market has very few genuine alternatives the Corporate/M&A practices of the top-tier and mid-tier firms, all of which offer essentially the same service model.  A large proportion of the corporate transactional work offered to these firms could be completed in a more value-oriented way by a nimble firm with ‘top-tier’ expertise and experience but without a ‘top-tier’ cost.

Our Approach

Strauss & Partners offers top-tier Corporate/M&A partner expertise, but without the cost of traditional top-tier firms. We do not have large teams of lawyers or expensive overheads. Adam is completely ‘hands on’ so clients receive a consistently high level of service and expertise.

We offer a high-quality and cost-effective alternative to the Corporate/M&A practices of traditional law firms, and our pricing and way of working makes us accessible to clients of all sizes.

Our services are particularly well suited to transactions that require high levels of expertise but do not need a large team of lawyers. However, we can also:

 

  • Work alongside traditional law firms on discrete aspects of larger transactions where our value and service proposition can be utilised;

  • Work within clients, essentially as an extension of the in-house team, to deliver specific transactions; and

  • Work on a retainer basis.


We are flexible, both in the way we work and the way we charge. We are not constrained by large law firm resourcing, conflicts or pricing.
