MEET ADAM STRAUSS

Adam Strauss is our principal and founder. He is based in Sydney, Australia.


Adam spent over 20 years practising law at Herbert Smith Freehills, one of Australia’s premier law firms. He was a partner in the Corporate M&A practice of Herbert Smith Freehills for over 10 years.


During that time he worked with a diverse range of clients, including ASX-listed companies, multinationals, private equity and investment funds and start ups, operating across a wide variety of industry sectors. These include BHP, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Wesfarmers, Worley, South32, Yancoal, Centennial Coal, Eclipx Group, WPP, Boral, Macquarie, KKR, HPS Investment Partners, Volt Bank, Boston Consulting Group, British Columbia Investment Corporation and PSP Investments among others.


Adam has a broad corporate and commercial law practice with particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructures, joint ventures and strategic alliances, foreign investment, commercial contracting and other commercial transactions.


Some examples of transactions Adam has advised on include:
- BHP on various transactions, including the unification of its DLC holding structure, its demerger of South32 and its Indonesian metallurgical coal joint venture with Adaro Energy and later exit;


- Commonwealth Bank of Australia on the merger of its Aussie home loan business with Lendi;


- PSP Investments on its investment in Airtrunk and associated joint venture with Macquarie;


- Worley on the sale of its Capital Projects Advisory business;


- Volt Bank on its acquisition of Australian Mortgage Marketplace;


- Wesfarmers on its demerger of Coles;


- Eclipx Group on the sale of various businesses, including Grays, Right2Drive and CarLoans.com.au;


- WPP AUNZ Ltd on various transactions, including its merger with WPP plc and acquisition of WPP’s Australian & New Zealand businesses and sale of its Kantar businesses;


- The Foschini Group on its acquisition of the RAG menswear business;


- The Boston Consulting Group on its acquisition of The Simulation Group;


-  Yancoal Australia on various transactions, including its acquisition of Coal & Allied and the associated establishment of its Hunter Valley Operations joint venture with Glencore;


- Centennial Coal on its disposal of certain NSW mining assets to Delta Electricity.

Adam has also worked on a contract (or secondment) basis within clients. Most recently, Adam spent 9 months at BHP as Acting Head of the BHP M&A Legal Team.


Adam holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) and Bachelor of Science from the University of Sydney.
